The Morning

Once more I am awake at dawn
I hate to go to bed at night
The man who recently has gone
Creeps with the sun into my light

I pray that he will go away
Across the globe is not so far
Yet better still than yesterday
There just remains the smallest scar

Now lips do kiss where it once hurt
And laughing I’m a fool once more
Remembering how to smile and flirt
Feels better than it did before

The morning comes, now I can sleep
For night has passed quite wickedly
And though I may be falling deep
I’m doing so quite happily

Saccharine

How dare you come into my life
And take the pain away?
Heartache was all I had to write
My poems are now cliché.

How dare you always make me smile?
I much prefer to brood.
To laugh so much is not my style
You’ve changed my attitude.

How dare you help me sleep at night?
Insomnia’s no more.
My edgy art has lost its bite,
My friends think I’m a bore.

How dare you teach me not to care
What other people say?
Now I’ve become half of one pair
And everything has changed.

Sonnet 55

Not marble, nor the gilded monuments
Of princes, shall outlive this powerful rhyme;
But you shall shine more bright in these contents
Than unswept stone, besmear'd with sluttish time.
When wasteful war shall statues overturn,
Nor Mars his sword, not war's quick fire shall burn
The living record of your memory.
'Gainst death, and all oblivious enmity
Shall you pace forth; your praise shall still find room
Even in the eyes of all posterity
That wear this world out to the ending doom.
So, till the judgment that yourself arise,
You live in this, and dwell in lovers' eyes.

Bungalow

High above the town below me
Outside our tiny bungalow
Watching those who came before we
Stumbling drunkenly they go

Freeze our minds to see the moment
Of feeling wind against our feet
I’ll place that moment in my thoughts
To use when I’m old and wrinkly

I’ll never forget how you looked
When you came falling through that door
Our laughter filling every nook
And reaching down into the floor

We’ll keep our piece of heaven safe
Locked inside the depths of our chest
Good thing we’ve got a year to make
Our exit by way of arrest.

Second Love

My love is in a foreign land
I'm too shy to walk down his street.
Until the moment we first glanced,
I'd never dreamt a dream so sweet.

Between me and my love's a sea -
as crowds of people watch and stare
they wonder if he'll swim to me,
but he does not know that I'm there.

My love and I are worlds apart,
I hear him in the other room.
Maybe one day our paths will cross,
I only hope it happens soon.

Zelda

Dreams of grandeur keep me from sleep
I long for the day when I can awake
Descending down towards the cliff of defeat
Taking my hope with me on the way.

Watching you watch my aberrant face
Silently you pity my need for a smile
But there is a secret you’d kill to erase:
I’m the most extraordinary girl you’ve met in a while.

I haven’t spoken a word since our encounter
My nerves are getting the best of my countenance
Back to the practice of self-medication
My chemical bravery is at it again.

Equivocation

Swear to me your love is true
(Be sure to break your promise)
I'll my pledge my heart and soul to you
(I was never one to be honest)

Each dawn we'll embrace with heartfelt lies
As minute-by-minute our love will decrease
If tomorrow you come again to try
I swear that I will call the police

I don't care for love, so please keep a distance
If you have two eyes and are Man
But if you continue this stubborn insistence
I'll run away as fast as I can.
